I heard a Norwegian give a comparison of the Norwegian and American attitudes regarding work, Norwegians work to live while Americans live to work. In other words Norwegians work so they can pay for their fun and play while Americans strive to work as much as possible making work their life.
I took a few moments to ponder the saying and have to say it harbors at least some truth which is evident in the respective work cultures. Norwegians are hard efficient workers but they love to take advantage of their five weeks (minimum) of holidays/vacation time. Conversely it has almost become a competition among Americans to see who uses the least amount of holiday/vacation time.
I found the statement to be interesting and cause for thought.
I am a trailing husband following my wife where her work takes us. I am now living in my fourth country. My profession is a secondary math/physics teacher. As a family we have become travel fanatics. My goal for this blog is to discuss being a trailing husband and traveler.

Happy, Happy, Happy!!!
Ocean view, narrow cobblestone streets, old town, obligatory large and beautiful cathedral, surrounded by a language we don’t understand, traffic following unwritten procedures rather than strict rules of the road, beach time, zip lining, para-sailing, another stamp in the passport and great food! We are on our last full day of a week long vacation that has been fun and relaxing, but too short. Our bodies have relaxed while our spirits have been refreshed. What a great time!
A travel tip, Mexico is not busy during the summer so you avoid the crowds and prices are lower.

It Was 75 Years Ago Today
On the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion I reflect on my visits to the invasion beaches.
Walking up on one of the beaches on a beautiful summer day took two minutes at a casual pace, compared to 12 hours of hell. The beauty and tranquility of the memorial sites contrasted with the full brutality of war. I stood before a flag pole at Omaha Beach and said The Pledge of Allegiance with tears streaming down my face. I sang "O Canada" at Juno Beach while my voice and lips quivered. I am forever grateful for the sacrifice of the men and women who have helped instill/restore/maintain liberty.
