I am a trailing husband following my wife where her work takes us. I am now living in my fourth country. My profession is a secondary math/physics teacher. As a family we have become travel fanatics. My goal for this blog is to discuss being a trailing husband and traveler.

Lilyhammer
We have started watching the series Lilyhammer on Netflix. The story is what it is but hearing the characters speak Norwegian, the English accents and seeing the activities of daily Norwegian life gives us a taste of being back in Norway. Having lived in Norway we are getting more out of the series than most North American viewers. Some liberties have been taken to make the show "Americanized" but overall the writers have done a good job of making it true to Norwegian life along with inserting some subtle humor. For at least a brief period it feels like we are experiencing the home life of one of our former homes.

A Hint of Green
I have to be honest, I have found myself developing a small amount of envy. I have been hearing friends and acquaintances speak of their travels and pending overseas moves and I am a little envious. I am missing our expat lifestyle and experiences, and would love to move internationally again. The itch to travel has hit hard. Hopefully this summer we will be able to "hit the road" for a few adventures.

God Bless Texas, and Fried Food
It is early March so in Houston, TX that means it is time for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This past weekend my family and I visited the non-rodeo portion of the show--carnival, games, rides, petting zoo, corporate sponsors wanting you to purchase their goods and/or services, animals, art and quilt competition, and of course food. Oh the food! Each year food vendors seek to create a new, interesting, artery clogging, heart stopping culinary (I use that term loosely) delight. I offer you photographic evidence of some of this year's selection. For the record I did try two items, the rest was for amusement and entertainment.

Familiar Feeling
This past weekend we attended the wind-up dinner for the soccer team that our son was the manager of. My wife and I ended up sitting at a table with parents that spoke French. The parents did speak English with us but when they were speaking amongst themselves it was in French. Being in a setting where people were speaking French helped ease our homesickness for France.
